Эрл Симмонс (известный под псевдонимом DMX) — хип-хоп исполнитель, родился 18 декабря 1970 года в Балтиморе, штат Мэриленд. Его отец покинул семью, когда Эрл был маленьким, и он воспитывался в интернате в Йонкерсе, штат Нью-Йорк. Большую часть юности он провёл в тюрьме. DMX начал свою карьеру в Йонкерсе, где он был MC вместе со своими друзьями Lox и DJ Clue. Его псевдоним был взят от названия драм-машины «Oberheim DMX», позже он расшифровывал как «Dark Man X».

В 1997 году DMX подписывает контракт с лейблом Def Jam, а в 1998 выходит его сингл «Get at Me Dog», ставший очень успешным.
