Byron Mino
The Early years.....
Byron was born in Quito Ecuador, the youngest of fourteen children. H grew up in a family where all the children were nurtured and encouraged to love music at a very early age. His father, Dr. Luis Ernesto Mino, was a prominent attorney with many talents. He was a financial advisor, economist, professor and writer. He also played several instruments like the guitar, violin, piano and accordion. Dr. Mino had a deep passion for the United States. He dedicated all of his free time devouring every scrap of information about America. Finally in 1963, he came to visit «The Dream World» U.S.A. Before making his final stop in Wisconsin, he visited Philadelphia, New York, Washington D.C. Winchester Va., Denver and Omaha. His «Dream World» had finally became a reality.
At the return to his native Ecuador, he gathered all the children (as it was traditional in the Mino family) and with a guitar in hand began telling his children about America. «I'm a rich man» he said, «I'm surrounded by the love of my children and the memory of America». Let us sing and celebrate.

At the return to his native Ecuador, he gathered all the children (as it was traditional in the Mino family) and with a guitar in hand began telling his children about America. "I'm a rich man" he said, "I'm surrounded by the love of my children and the memory of America". Let us sing and celebrate.
Eduardo and Danilo, two of Byron's brothers P.K.A. "The Mino Naranjo Brothers", had already made a debut in the music business and won their first "Festival of the Latin American Song" what later would become known as the "Otti Festival". Soon afterwards they had a television appearance on a major Ecuadorian network with some of their siblings, Paco, Sonia and "Byron". The response was phenomenal. Phone calls were pouring into the network applauding their performances.
Later Years......
As a teenager, Byron came to the United States. His father's "dream land" had finally come with in reach. He arrived in New York full of hope and expectations. "What a fabulous place" he recalls. He had vivid memories of his Father's description of the USA, sky scrapers, Fifth Ave and endless busy streets. It was around Christmas holidays, and all he could think about was that he was living a fantasy. "This can not be real, I feel like I'm in heaven". Byron never passed up an opportunity to grab a guitar and sing to the delight of his friends and others. Music was always his passion.
Moved to Dallas.
Ivan, the 10th sibling lived in Dallas, and every time they would talk on the phone Ivan would tell Byron: "You must come live in Texas!". At the time, Ivan was working in the automobile industry. He tried to convince Byron to work with him at a local car dealership. This continues to be Byron's occupation. After many lengthy conversations, Byron was convinced and immediately moved to Dallas.
Later he met Camilla Beth Dickerson, to whom he wed and had a beautiful daughter, named Alisha. Beth was a music professor at East Texas State Teachers college. She would always play the piano for Byron and together they would perform for friends and family. Every time Byron sang, his audience would suggest he sing professionally.
Byron met Sonny Rios, a voice professor, while managing an automobile dealership. After some conversations about music, Byron gave Sonny a CD where he had made a karaoke recording of himself singing "Granada". He asked Byron who was singing and Byron replied "that's me". Sonny was amazed by the clarity of Byron's voice and invited him to his privately owned studio, to educate his voice. Soon after Sonny had a recital and invited Byron to perform. Byron was among twenty of his fellow students and received a standing ovation from them for his performance.
One of Byron's first professional performances was at the Dallas Parkinson's Gala, held at the Westin Galleria. Afterwards, Byron was invited to perform in several events, where he sang with a very talented young woman named Christina Procktor. They performed a song by Andrea Bocelli and Sara Brightman, "Time to Say Goodbye" at the Wedding for Michael Aigen and Shelby Bobosky, two of Dallas's most prominent lawyers. The event was held at the Chicago Civic Center. The parents of the Bride and their four hundred guests were touched and moved by Byron and Christina's performance, another standing ovation for both. Shortly afterwards, Byron performed at the Latin American Festival of the Song and Dance. During this event he met four Dallas Socialites, among them, Teri Willis approached Byron and congratulated him for an outstanding performance. They were amazed by his powerful voice. Teri said listening to Byron brought back fond memories of the Great Mario Lanza. Soon after, Teri became a strong advocate for Byron's singing career. She strongly encouraged him to pursue his Tenor career and immediately offered him the opportunity to record a Demo. At the completion of this Demo, the word spread like wildfire. Family and friends were delighted and at awe with the quality of this CD and Byron's singing capabilities. Several copies of this Demo were distributed through family and friends. Everyone wanted a copy of the sensational recording Byron and Teri had put together. Soon after, the Demo landed in the hands of a very well known Entertainment Lawyer, Brian Cuban. Currently Byron is working with Brian to continue enhancing Byron's professional career.
Ecuador, South America
Byron's brother, Ivan began managing Byron's career and received an invitation for Byron to be the featured artist in "La Fiesta de Bolivar". Byron was invited to participate in one of the most significant cultural and historical events of his native country Ecuador. Ecuador was the host for "Fiesta de Bolivar- 200 anos del nacimiento del Libertador Simon Bolivar", a week long event celebrating the life long accomplishments of the great liberator and crusader, Simon Bolivar, and his affect on Latin America. This celebration would include performances in the cities of Quito, Guayaquil, and Cuenca in Ecuador from July 21st through July 27th and would be commemorated in five countries simultaneously.
To prepare for the concerts, Byron began working with SMU Professor of Voice, Burr Cochren Phillips, and renowned international musicians, Gabor Szabo, violinist from Hungary, and Domenico Codispoti, pianist from Italy. Gabor and Domenico would accompany Byron to South America and play with the other musicians there.
Byron's first performance was July 23, at the Iglesia de la Compania, the biggest, most symbolic church for Ecuador. His tour continued in Guayaquil where he performed at the "Iglesia de Santo Domingo" and his last performance was in the city of Cuenca held in the "Banco Central" auditorium.
Byron's concerts in Ecuador turned out to be a great success. The media gave glowing reviews of Byron's performance as he has been one of few artists to have performed in the beautiful historical church, la Iglesia de La Compania. What an emotional homecoming for Byron as he was welcomed by his family and friends and new adoring fans in the country of his birthplace. In attendance were prominent politicians including Rodrigo Cevallos, Ex President of Ecuador, Penaherra Padilla, President of the National Parlament of Ecuador, Carlos Mesa Gisbert, Vice President of Bolivia, Alfonso Lopez Michelsen, Ex President of Colombia and Mexican philosopher, Leopoldo Zea. The international magazine, Gente, proclaimed that Byron Mino has "a great voice for the world".
Budapest, Hungary
While preparing for South America and future concerts, Gabor Szabor offered the sevices of his mentor, Dr. Tamas Benedek, Conductor of the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra, to provide arrangement and orchestration of music for Byron's new CD as the demo was made from karaoke tracks. Byron and Ivan consulted with close friend and business associate, Tommy Quon, and asked him to co-manage Byron and help with the financing of the CD. Tommy arranged for the recording of a preliminary 8 song CD entitled "cantici d' amore" featuring Byron accompanied by Domenico Codispoti on piano to get the feel of what Byron could do in the studio. Again, everyone that heard this CD was convinced that Byron had unique talents for singing and the decision was made to record the new CD in Hungary with the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra.
Byron, Tommy, Gabor and Domenico was in Budapest, Hungary for 10 days working with Dr. Benedek and his orchestra. Byron was sick on the second day and miraculously worked while sick for days to finish 8 songs of the 12 songs to be recorded during the 4 days set aside for recording. Dr. Benedek worked the orchestra 8 hours a day as the conductor, the recording supervisor, Janos Bojti, and arrangers, Pal Kalmus and Jozsef Blum expected perfection for their work. Dr. Benedek said that "Byron Mino has exceptional voice and talent and great professionalism and poise to have never recorded or sung live with an orchestra". Dr. Benedek was so pleased with the quality of Byron's CD project that he offered to come to Dallas and finish the vocals on the last four songs with Byron in late October.
Dallas, Texas
Maximedia was the studio where the last four songs of Byron's CD were finished. Dr. Benedek came to Dallas, Texas for the first time in his career to help Byron finish vocals. While in Dallas, Dr. Benedek taught two classes at SMU, visited the State Fair, Kennedy Museum, Southfork Ranch, worked in the studio with Byron, saw Dallas from the top of Reunion Tower, shopped with his wife and ended the journey buying a Kurtzweil electric piano with case. He was invited by the Plano Symphony to come back and conduct two of their performances in February of 2004.
Byron finished the twelve songs with orchestra arrangements with the help of Dr. Benedek. Byron and Tommy decided to add "Alfonsina y El Mar" one of the songs from the piano CD to the list. The final song to be recorded was written by Michael Hoppe after 9-11 called "This Majestic Land". With beautiful inspirational lyrics, this song will be a tribute to the land that offered refuge and blessed so many immigrants with her majesty and grace as America has with Byron Mino and has given him the opportunity to share his God given talents with the world.
