Charlie Lee Byrd (September 16, 1925 – November 30, 1999) was a famous American jazz and classical guitarist born in Suffolk, Virginia. Byrd collaborated on the famous 1962 album Jazz Samba with Stan Getz, a recording which pushed bossa nova into the mainstream of North American music. He was the U.S. guitarist who best understood and played Brazilian music, especially the Bossa Nova genre.
