1) Vanilla is a French emo band.
Formed in 1992, VANILLA highly contributed to the rise of the so‑called «french hardcore scene», along with the now defunct FINGER PRINT and IVICH (among others).

Definitely influenced by the then innovative american scene, VANILLA stood out with an emotional yet‑tortured hardcore style, very energetic and personal.

After a few changes in the line‑up, the band finds its definitive team in 1999 with former members Yves and Yann Maisonneuve (who were also part of IVICH), Jean LeBrun(former bass player from 1992 to 1996, now guitar player since 1999) and Alain Vidal (bass player since 1996). Yves and Alain were also part of the short‑lived band EL VIDAL SONIDO. 2001 is the year of their 3rd album release on Paris‑based label SALVATION. This new turn in VANILLA's career marks important changes on a musical level but also on the songwriting field : the members' various influences bring a fresh inspiration yet staying faithful to their hardcore origins (the DISCHORD/Washington DC scene remains an unanimous source of inspiration within the band).

The working on the melodies has been increased and the addition of a second guitar led to a more rigorous way of composing. The result is up to what one can expect from an ever hardworking band when it comes to quality songwriting and efficiency. The «PLAYS FANTASTIQUE» album was recorded by Didier Tillit (ANANDA..). PLASTIK CULTURE (ROMEO IS BLEEDING, IKERASAK, JR EWINGÖ) has put out the vinyl version in a luxurious gatefold double LP and is now taking care of the band after SALVATION ran out of business. Summer of 2002, VANILLA have put out a split cd (featuring 3 brand new songs) with Japan's THERE IS A LIGHT THAT NEVER GOES OUT on the french record label WAITING FOR AN ANGEL. A 10" vinyl version is available on PLASTIK CULTURE. So that their finest effort «PLAYS FANTASTIQUE» remains available on cd, PLASTIK CULTURE recently did a repress, having removed the SALVATION logo for the crazy lil' stabbed robot. A new tour (in Italy ?) is planned for 2003.

# «PLAYS FANTASTIQUE» is VANILLA's 3rd album, their best thing so far with a slick, great looking artwork and a new lower price.

# the band has toured with ENGINE DOWN (lovitt rec/ day after rec) and AINA (bcore rec) in Europe last may. VANILLA has more than 200 shows to the credit since they started 10 years ago.

# 150 promotional cds sent to the medias (mags, radios, bookers) for the repress of «PLAYS FANTASTIQUE» on PLASTIK CULTURE.
