Boris Skalsky founded Dead Heart Bloom in 2006. After living in D.C., leaving a prior band, and moving to New York, Boris holed up with a 2-inch tape machine and wrote and recorded the self‑titled debut record. He followed it in 2007 with an acoustic record called Chelsea Diaries. Both records were nominated for the Shortlist Music Prize.

In 2008, Boris and guitarist Paul Wood, joined by bassist Nathan Goheen and drummer John Hadfield, released a Dead Heart Bloom 3 EP series, each EP exploring a different musical style: Fall In (dream pop); Oh Mercy (rock); and In Chains (ambient folk).

In 2009, Dead Heart Bloom music was featured on FOX show «Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles» as well as a national Above the Influence ad campaign. Their music has also appeared on NBC's «Friday Night Lights», among others.

In 2010 the band released a new LP titled Strange Waves with the intention of taking the idea of the 3 EPs-- mixing up different styles-- and still creating a cohesive work of art. The 9 song record, released in August, was a natural outgrowth of these styles, a search for deliberate structures while retaining the atmosphere and sense of space that's become sonically familiar over the past releases.
