Amy Meredith is Sydney‑siders Christian Lo Russo (Vocals, Keys), Joel Chapman (Guitar), Wade Osborn (Bass), Cameron Laing (Guitar) and Kosta Theodosis (Drums). They’re a boys‑own, stadium pop troupe, and they’re taking steady aim at the high‑end of the charts.

Brought together in 2006 by shared disdain for the current crop of Aussie indy‑pop, Amy Meredith write music that taps into the pop zeitgeist without sounding bland or tired.

“I don’t think we’re doing anything like anyone else out there, like the other pop or indy bands,” says Christian, “we like to think of ourselves as a stadium pop band. We come stage and the amount of times people come up to us and say they were blown away.. it’s really exciting.“

But it’s not all about impeccable attitude and style. “We basically locked ourselves in a rehearsal studio in Sutherland developing our sound, “ Joel says. And that discipline paid off. Their first show in January 2007 was a sell‑out affair at the trendy Gaelic Theatre — although they’re still waiting on their rider request for ‘one member of Daft Punk’..

The boys have played with international acts like !!! (ChkChkChk), The Bravery, The Silversun Pickups and Hard Fi, toured with Little Red and Something With Numbers and thrown some headlining gigs along the way. They’ve partied with Bloc Party in LA and showcased for pop cognoscenti in Japan.

With a fat wad of synth‑driven pop‑rock under its belt, Amy Meredith hit the studio early 2008 with Peter Mayes (Pnau) to record their debut EP. After much strumming of strings and banging of things, out popped a self‑titled 4-track. Led by melancholic single ‘Black Eyes’, the Amy Meredith EP showcases a mature take on indy‑pop far beyond the black‑eyeliner and button‑badges of their contemporaries.

Recently the band has been crafting new material for an album.
