From 1999 to 2006 All India Radio evolved from a DJ Shadow‑esque solo act with world music flavours into a post‑rock instrumental band, collecting along the way numerous accolades including a John Peel album of the week, ABC Radio National album of the week, a number 2 on the AIR charts, music in the US TV series One Tree Hill, Michael Moore's hit film Sicko and numerous Australian TV series, an ARIA nomination, a record deal with Chicago based label Minty Fresh (The Cardigans, Veruca Salt, Bettie Serveert), a US tour and a collaboration with The Church's Steve Kilbey (who wrote the magical 'Under The Milky way' recently rediscovered in 'Donnie Darko').

Now in 2007 the All India Radio have taken another evolutionary step. The band (Martin Kennedy on guitar and sampler, Mark Wendt on bass and Ben Sims on drums) have been joined by new member and singer Leona Prue. Drawing from their previous ambient and atmospheric styles, Leona's vocals have lifted the band out of the post rock doldrums into the realm of the heavenly. Comparisons to Cocteau Twins, Lamb and Portishead now sit alongside comparisons of old — Boards Of Canada, Sigur Ros and Ennio Morricone.

The band are currently working on their new studio album, while Martin is also working on an ambient project featuring the stunning pedal steel guitar of Graham Lee (who played with the legendary Triffids as well as the equally legendary KLF) as well as a collaborative album with The Church's Steve Kilbey.
